About Us

Mysterious people of different kinds are often spotted wondering up north, they call themselves the Keepers of the DarkSide. No one knows for certain where they came from or what is the power that drives them. Some say they are the descendents of long forgotten heroes from the times of The Seven Pillars, others say they are just driven by the dark crystal fountains. One thing is for certain, their number is growing and rumours say that they are founding a new city somewhere in the region.

Keepers of the DarkSide (KDS) are a multinational MMORPG guild, who strives to be the best, providing an organised and fun environment for all members.

KDS was founded on the 29th October 2003 in Star Wars Galaxies on the Chimera server and while we take pride in our many achievements, we value friendship and fun above all else.

KDS has been represented in every major MMO since 2003 including SWG, EQ2, EVE, WoW, AoC, WAR, DF, Aion and is looking forward to STO and SWTOR.

Members of KDS are known as Keepers.

KDS Code of Conduct

General rules of behaviour

0.01: Rules of Behaviour apply at all times in all situations, unless otherwise noted. Appropriate offense level will be listed by every rule. These rules are subject to change, violations of these rules can lead to strikes and in the end facing the Court-Martial and possible expulsion from KDS. If a member feels that they cannot follow these rules, then they are welcome to leave. These rules are intended to provide a mature playing environment for the members, and to keep the game fun and enjoyable. The primary rule at all times is to have fun, don’t take the game too seriously.

0.02: Respect: Members will respect all other members, whether they are superior in rank, equal in rank, or lower in rank; do not use foul or derogatory language towards your fellow members. Mutual respect is one of the tenets that KDS is founded on.

0.03: Disobeying Orders: A member shall follow all legal direct orders given. Orders that are given that do not follow the Chain of Command are not considered legal. Failure to follow orders will lead to strikes and ultimately facing the Court-Martial.

=== 0.03.1: Legal direct orders defined: A legal order is one that is given from a superior officer who has command over those who are being ordered, and has the right/permission to give such an order. Further information on what comprises a legal order can be found in the descriptions of positions and ranks in KDS and can also be obtained from the High Command (HC).

=== 0.03.2: Chain of Command: The Chain of Command is the pathway that orders are allowed to flow, this is a very clear cut chain that flows from High Colonel to Corp Leaders to Squad Commanders to the leaders of the sub-units (team leaders) to the members in the sub-units. For example, an order that follows the chain of command would be the A-Corp CO giving any member of the military a legal order, however, the A-Corp CO cannot issue orders to non-military personnel, unless those personnel have been assigned to auxiliary military duty. See the section on the Chain of Command for further information.

0.04: Cheating/Exploits: Members will not use cheats or exploits while they are representing KDS. Cheating/Exploits includes the use of “Cheat Codes,” hacks, trainers, bots, or any other method deemed cheating or an exploit by the developers of the game or by the High Command. A member caught cheating while KDS will be facing the Court-Martial and is subject directly to demotion or expulsion from KDS. KDS members proven to have purchased ingame currency, where the game publisher does not legaly allow such transactions, are subject to receive one strike.

0.05: Members may not be in any other PA/Guild ingame, on the same server as KDS. If a member is found to be a part of more than one PA/Guild, on the same server as KDS, they can either leave KDS or leave the other PA/Guilds and remain in KDS and face Court-Martial.

0.06: While in public and representing KDS, members are expected to act with Honor, Dignity, Respect for other players, and Maturity. Your actions not only reflect on yourself, but it reflects on us as a whole. Violation can result in strike/demotion/suspension/expulsion.

0.07: Ask any KDS Leader or Officers of the High Command to resolve conflict/problems/issues with other members or the rules. Do not post grievances on public forums or in areas where the public can see, if a member has a severe problem with something that is going on in KDS, contact any of the High Command members, they are here to serve.

0.08: Forums: Trolling, Spamming, or Flaming will not be tolerated on KDS Forums or on any public forums as a KDS member, at first a warning/strike will be issued, if the problem continues, it can result in facing Court-Martial wich can lead to expulsion from KDS.

=== 0.08.1 Links to websites or images that contain cheats, vulgar material, pornography and other material that is deemed unsuitable by the High Command and or illegal by the State/Country in which our website is hosted is forbidden.

=== 0.08.2 Your KDS Forum's Signature must contain: Your KDS Rank, Your Ingame Name and Rank, Name of your alts.

0.09: Members will not use derogatory or slanderous language, nor will a member make comments about race, gender, religion, sexual preference, or creed. We will notify proper authorities if a member violates applicable laws, we will also notify the game publisher if a member violates the Community Standards, End User License Agreement, or the Terms of Service as defined by the game publisher.

0.10: Taunting of other players in a competitive/fun manner is allowed. However, do not harass other players. The KDS “standard” in combat or in hostile situations is to fight with honor and dignity, silent killing is encouraged. The RP style of our military operations is intended for the public forums and for the fun of the community.

0.11: Kill all enemies when possible, if necessary gather support/reinforcements in order to kill them. Do not assist enemies, they only exist to try and defeat us and impose their idea of what is good on everyone.

0.12: Assist all our allies and neutral civilians when you can.

0.13: Members shall not hack into other websites, if a member commits a “Cyber-Crime” or violate any laws in regards to the Internet; the appropriate authorities shall be notified, and the member shall face the Court-Martial.

0.14: If a member commits an act of Treason against KDS, they shall face immediate Court-Martial and most likely expulsion from KDS. Treason is defined as aiding an enemy of KDS or attempting to disrupt the well-being/unity of KDS.

0.15: Voice Comms: A KDS Member has to be on the designated Voice Comms if they are online in a KDS game. If they are unabel to they need to notify an Officer as soon as they login and ask for permission to be online ingame and offline Voice Comms.

0.16: Violating any of the above rules will lead to strikes and/or facing of the Court-Martial

=== 0.16.1: Court-Martial in KDS is composed of any number of High Command members and at least one High Colonel

=== 0.16.2: Strike System: Any Officer can give strikes to any member under his rank. Strikes can be given if the Officer is present when the situation is developing or based on evidence (SS, records, movies) presented on the forums by any other KDS memeber but not limited to. It is expected that all KDS Members make sure the CoC is followed and report any violation to an Officer with evidence as stated previosly. Strikes have a limited LifeSpan from 1 to 6 months depending on the severity of the situation that triggered the strike. The Officer that gave the strike decides it's lifespan. A Strike can be overrulled or LifeSpan changed, after an appeal, only by a High Colonel or the Acting Guild Leader when none of the High Colonels is Active in that game. If a member receives 3 Strikes within a certain timeframe he will face Court-Martial and most likely dismissal from KDS Ranks. Majors and High Colonels can directly remove from KDS ranks a member that has received the third strike!

Recruiting/Membership

1.01: Membership in KDS is a privilege, not a right; a member, recruit, or applicant can be denied membership by KDS High Command for any reason.

=== 1.01.1: KDS does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual preference, nationality, or creed.

1.02: Membership in KDS is obtained through a process designed to make sure that the applicant meets the needs, requirements, and desires of KDS for its members, and that KDS meets the needs, and desires of the applicant. An Applicant may have their application terminated at any time.

1.03: The Application process:
1) To apply to KDS a prospective applicant must first register with our forum.
2) After the applicant has registered, he must submit an application online in the public section of our forum following the template of the game in question.
3) There will be a brief probationary period, usually of two weeks in length, the length of an applicants probationary period is subject to change at the discretion of the High Command or Recruiting Officers.
4) During the probationary period, the applicant must attend some of the PVE/PVP events that will take place in that period of time.
5) After successful completion of probationary period, an applicant will become a full member of KDS and will choose their squad. High Command will take it under consideration and make a final decision on the squad they will be assigned to.

1.04: Squad Transfers: A member may request to be transferred to a different unit/corp. Transfers are subject to approval by the High Command, to successfully transfer, a member must have an appropriate skill/class for that unit/corp/squad.

1.05:Selecting a Corp: There are two Corps in KDS , the Army Corp and the Civilian Corp. The Army Corp is our organized Legion of combatants, and will mainly focus on PvP. The Civilian Corp is our crafting unit, they're goal is to assist the Military and also to establish our economic domination of various markets. Upon finishing the training period a member can immediately join one of them or both if they want to dedicate time to both.

Promotion/Advancement/Ranks:

2.01: Promotion in KDS is based on merit, not on seniority. Those who deserve a promotion and meet the qualifications for a leadership position will receive a promotion as long as there is an available position open. The best way to receive promotions is to assist KDS in growing in numbers. The more members we have, the more units we will be able to open up, and the more promotions will become available. If a member is not fulfilling their obligations as a leader, they will be asked to step down or receive a reduction in rank, this is not meant as a punishment, this is meant to make sure that KDS continues to function efficiently, and to keep qualified and dedicated members in positions of leadership.

2.02: Promotions are handled within the structure of each Corp, a Civilian leader cannot promote a military member, a military leader cannot promote a civilian member, etc. Promotions within a unit will be handled by the unit's commander within the limits of their mandate. Promotions must also follow the guidelines set forth by the Corp Commander. Ultimately, all promotions are subject to approval by the High Command.

2.03: KDS rank dose not grant ingame rank and viceversa. So a member can be Corp CO ingame and only Corporal as KDS rank. The following table applies to both KDS ranks as well as InGame ranks. InGame ranks are most likely called differentely from game to game.
